ISP Professional Training Admission Requirements
The ISP Professional Training is a premium training for experienced clinicians who are engaged in psychological work with individuals or groups in therapeutic practice or teaching.
If you are a psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, marriage and family therapist, counselor, art, movement or breath therapist, coach, bodyworker, energy worker, psychology trainer or educator, clergy, meditation or spiritual teacher, you will find the training valuable provided your work also involves psychological processing.
It is helpful if you already include the physical body in your work to some extent. Your familiarity with the body can be through body awareness or movement practice, body-based mindfulness or meditation practice, yoga or bodywork, or energy work.
Students and graduates of training in somatic psychology or body psychotherapy approaches such as Reichian therapy, Bioenergetics, Bodynamic Analysis, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy® (SP), and Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) will have an excellent basis.
Upon registering, please use the application form to describe your professional background.
If you are unsure whether your present work involves adequate psychological processing or body awareness to benefit most from ISP, please contact your local coordinator to discuss your application.
Certification Requirements
The ISP Practitioner Certificate is awarded to those who have completed the twelve days of training and 6 hours of personal sessions and 6 hours of case consultations from approved ISP providers. (Personal sessions and case consultations are at present not required for certification in all the countries. Please check with your local training organizer or coordinator to find out if you have to meet this requirement for certification).
If you missed the first live training module you can join the Integral Somatic Psychology™ Professional Training live from module 2 after completing module one by video. Two additional requirements apply:
Prior to attending ISP Module 2, you would be required to attend one 3-hour practice group where you have the opportunity to participate in the ‘therapist’, ‘client’, and/or ‘observer’ role. These practice groups are often meeting online so people from various areas/countries can meet. Practice groups do not count toward ISP certification.
Prior to attending ISP Module 2, you would also need to have one personal session from an approved ISP provider where the provider names the four steps of the practice of embodying emotions. These personal sessions do count towards ISP certification.
Assisting Requirements
In order to qualify to mentor (assist) students during live Integral Somatic Psychology trainings and workshops, ISP Professional Training graduates should have taken at least two of the three modules live (live online or in-person).
Taking the ISP Professional Training Entirely by Video
It is possible to obtain the ISP Practitioner Certificate by taking the entire ISP Professional Training—all three training modules—by video. Full tuition applies.
Graduates who have taken the entire ISP Professional Training by video, however, do not qualify for a mentoring (assisting) role in the ISP trainings. It is important to be exposed to the teaching and mentoring methods in the live training and during the training exercises in order to prepare yourself for the mentoring (assisting) role.
If you have taken the entire ISP Professional Training by video and you want to learn more by mentoring (assisting) in the ISP trainings, you can retake any two of the three ISP modules at a live training by paying 25% of the tuition. A 75% discount off tuition applies.
Integral Somatic Psychology is neither a regulatory nor licensing organization and therefore not sanctioned to certify, license, or otherwise bestow the legal authorization to practice as a mental health professional.
