Resolving symptoms from pre and perinatal trauma and global high intensity activation with greater efficiency through emotional embodiment and inter-personal resonance
A Workshop with Raja Selvam, PhD
Persistent imprints from pre and perinatal traumas are often in the form of implicit somatic memories with a tendency towards global high intensity activation in the central nervous system. This can lead to long-term symptoms such as anxiety, migraines, heart dysregulation, allergies, attachment and relational difficulties, and emotional difficulties such as persistent low self-esteem. Symptoms of pre and perinatal trauma and global high intensity activation can also be seen in clients whose caregivers had activation from causes such as war; or in clients who did not have adequate interactive regulation from their caregivers early in their lives. If unresolved, they often form the template of how we are affected by later traumas and compromise our ability to cope with them.
The workshop will demonstrate effective methods for shifting symptoms from pre and perinatal traumas and global high intensity activation with greater efficiency, utilizing a) the specialized knowledge of the physiology and energy anatomy of pre and perinatal trauma and global high intensity activation, b) the principles of physical and energetic regulation, and c) the tools of emotional embodiment and interpersonal resonance from Integral Somatic Psychology™ (ISP™).
- Learn about different types of pre and perinatal traumas and how they can compromise different layers of the body including the brain.
- Learn about how early imprints of pre and perinatal trauma are often behind reactions to traumatic events later in life.
- Learn about existential fragmentation, terror, rage, and shame, four of the six major themes associated with pre and perinatal trauma.
- Learn about global high intensity activation of the central nervous system often associated with pre and perinatal trauma.
- Learn how pre and perinatal trauma can contribute to attachment and relationship difficulties.
- Learn how emotional embodiment and inter-personal resonance can help in working effectively with these different themes from pre and perinatal trauma.
The format of the workshop will be lectures, live demonstrations with workshop participants (at least two per day), questions and answers, and short, guided group exercises to make the workshop experiential for the participants as well as to manage activation among them. There will be no practice sessions among participants to impart as much knowledge as possible during the short three-day workshop and to accommodate participants with varying levels of expertise.
All professionals engaged in treating shock and developmental traumas stand to gain much from the workshop. ISP graduates and trainees will learn advanced knowledge and expertise for applying ISP to the specific area of pre and perinatal trauma.
